笠島まち並保存地区
笠島城（現在は城跡のみ）の城下町として発展したこのエリアは、中世から塩飽の政
治・経済の中⼼地でした。港から⼊ってくる敵からの襲撃に対応できるよう、⾒通し
がきかないように曲げられた道やT字路が⾒られるのは、城下町ならでは。
昭和60年、江⼾末期から昭和初期にかけての伝統的な建物が集落として残っているこ
とから、重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に選定されました。
本⽡葺きに漆喰塗りの⽩壁や、なまこ壁に千本格⼦の窓をあしらった建物群はどこを
とっても絵になります。

This area where was developed as the castle town of Kasashima castle (no longerexist) was the center of the politics and economy of Siwaku area. To deal with the enemies who breaks into the town from the port, the streets were curved and T-shaped intersections were installed.
Number of traditional architectures have been remained (most of all them were built in between the late Edo to the early Showa period) in Kasashima. So thearea was selected as a preserved district in 1985.
Tiled roofs, white plaster walls, the combination of wooden lattice windows and Namako wall, and so on, the series of architectures are so picturesque.
